The Kwabenakwa and Asonkore communities in the Obuasi East Municipality of the Asante Region have been successfully reconnected to the national grid, ending a challenging six-month period of total darkness and power rationing.
This follows a strategic intervention by the Obuasi East Municipal Assembly, which provided two high-capacity transformers to replace those damaged half a year ago.
During a briefing with Adom News, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), William Kofi Adzowu, explained that the power crisis had significantly hindered local economic growth and affected the livelihoods of residents.
He stated that the assembly allocated over GHC 250,000 from its assembly internal coffers to procure and install the new equipment to ensure a permanent solution.
The MCE emphasized that the assembly prioritized this project to revitalize micro-businesses that had been crippled by the lack of electricity.
Opinion leaders and residents within the two communities have expressed immense relief and gratitude toward the assembly.
According to the community members, the return of stable power is invaluable, as it allows cold store operators and other electricity-dependent businesses to resume operations after months of inactivity.
They noted that the restoration of light not only brings back business but also improves the overall security and quality of life for the people of Kwabenakwa and Asonkore.
