The Senior Nursing Officer at the Children’s Ward of the Bibiani Municipal Hospital has confirmed that the five-month-old baby at the centre of the alleged Abofrem burial case is responding to treatment.

The update follows an earlier incident reported at Abofrem, where the infant was allegedly buried alive by a pastor and accomplices under the guise of spiritual intervention.

The baby was rescued and rushed to the Bibiani Municipal Hospital, while the suspects—including the child’s mother, a pastor, and another individual—were handed over to the police.

Speaking to the media, Senior Nursing Officer, Morkoa-Chie Edjah, dismissed claims circulating that the child is an “imbecile” or a “water baby,” describing such assertions as unfounded.

She explained that the baby is in stable condition, with only minor bruises around the neck, and is responding positively to treatment.

She further urged parents and guardians to seek prompt medical care whenever they notice any unusual condition in their children rather than resorting to unverified spiritual interventions.

Meanwhile, the Bibiani District Coordinator of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit, Evelyn Yitamkey, confirmed that the three suspects are in police custody assisting with investigations.

She also called on the public to report cases of abuse and domestic violence early to help protect vulnerable individuals, especially children.
