The Nkawie Senior High/Technical School in the Ashanti region on Monday, May 27, 2019 hosted an entourage from the National Union of Ghana Students’ (NUGS) and the University Students’ Association of Ghana (USAG).

The joint delegation from NUGS and USAG visited the school to observe the state of the school and also to learn about the challenges and perspective of students taking the ongoing West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The delegation met the headmaster, teachers and students of Nkawie SHS and discussed general academic work.

NUGS was particularly interested in discussing the challenges of the school and how it could resolve them.

The headmaster, students and teachers expressed their satisfaction with the systems in place in their school.

However, it emerged the school had inadequate computers for academic work. The students and teachers agreed this has caused a major deficiency in their progress in ICT education.

Another major challenge is the infrastructural deficit in the school. The headmaster in an empassioned manner stated that the school currently has an unfinished 21 unit classroom block which needs immediate completion.

The boy’s dormitory in the school is also in a deplorable state leading to great discomfort among the students.

Thus, NUGS calls on Government, old students and well-wishers to come to their aid in renovating the facility.

Final year students sitting the WASSCE, were   optimistic in their outlook and expressed satisfaction with progress made so far.

Students were advised to be thorough in studies as well as exhibiting good morals. They were admonished on the need to be good, hardworking and positive students and not to compromise their morals under any circumstance.

NUGS pledged to advocate for the expedited resolution to their infrastructural challenge and uses this medium to call on all relevant stakeholders, particularly the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service, to resolve this challenge in all haste.

NUGS is committed to advocating and safeguarding the interests of Ghanaian students.
