The New Patriotic Party (NPP) says it will take disciplinary action against any aspirant who resorts to insults and personal attacks during campaigns ahead of the party’s regional elections in the Ahafo Region.
Ahafo Regional Chairman and aspiring candidate for the same position, Kwabena Owusu Sekyere, said the party would not tolerate campaign messages that undermine unity or violate its code of conduct.
Speaking to Adom News at Goaso during the party’s two-day vetting exercise for 30 aspirants contesting various regional executive positions, Mr. Owusu Sekyere stressed that issue-based campaigning must take precedence over abusive rhetoric.
He said campaigns characterised by insults and unsubstantiated allegations would not only breach the party’s code of ethics but also create divisions within the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
According to him, the party has put in place mechanisms to closely monitor the conduct and campaign messages of all aspirants.
He warned that any candidate found engaging in insults or making unfounded allegations against fellow contestants would be referred to the party’s disciplinary committee for the necessary sanctions.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the vetting committee and Deputy National Youth Organiser of the NPP, Isaac Jay-Hyde, expressed satisfaction with the calibre of aspirants who appeared before the committee.
He said the quality of candidates demonstrated during the vetting exercise gives the party confidence that those eventually elected would contribute meaningfully to its preparations for the 2028 general elections.
Mr. Jay-Hyde also assured aspirants of a free, fair and transparent electoral process, urging them to conduct their campaigns in a manner that promotes unity and strengthens the party ahead of the polls.
