The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Nkwanta South in the Oti Region, Joseph Awal Antwi, has cut sod for the construction of a Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) Compound at Jumbo, a farming community.
The project forms part of efforts to improve living conditions and strengthen healthcare delivery in the area.
Speaking at a brief ceremony to mark the commencement of the project, the MCE reaffirmed government’s commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare, particularly in underserved communities, in line with efforts to ensure equitable primary healthcare services.
He disclosed that the facility, when completed, will include an Outpatient Department (OPD), a labour ward, and nurses’ quarters.
According to him, the provision of accommodation will ensure health workers are readily available to respond to cases, including emergencies at night.
He added that construction is expected to begin within a week, with the project projected to be completed and handed over within six months.

Joseph Awal also appealed to residents of Jumbo to support the contractor and take shared responsibility for safeguarding construction materials, cautioning against theft and any actions that could delay completion.
The Chief of Jumbo, Ubor Lasoon Charles, expressed appreciation to the government led by President John Dramani Mahama, the Member of Parliament for the area, Geoffrey Kini, and the MCE, describing the project as a major and long-awaited intervention.
He pledged the community’s commitment to protect and maintain the facility for the benefit of present and future generations.
