Some students of the Nkwanta Senior High School in the Volta region have attacked and vandalized school properties over the seizure of mobile phones Monday evening.

According to reports, the students resorted to vandalism following the insistence of school authorities to ensure strict compliance with school rules that prevent the use of cell phones on campus.

Nkwanta South District Police Commander, ASP Williams Ayensu, confirmed the incident on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem Tuesday.

He said the rioting began after teachers seized mobile phones at the boys’ dormitory during a roll call. This infuriated the students and they decided to vent their anger on the teachers.

“The angry students started pelting stones at the teachers, smashed windscreens of schools buses and classroom windows and vandalised other properties,” the Police Commander stated.

  1. That narration is entirely NOT TRUE… The mobile phones were indeed seized and smashed with hard stones right in front of the students which sort of displaced them emotionally but still maintained calm… After 10:00pm which was “lights out” as all secondary schools go by, teachers sneaked into a particular dormitory and started braking the padlocks on their boxes, just in search of phones… This caused tempers to rise and it resulted in such a messy situation.. We plead all necessary investigations will be done ASAP!
