The Minister of State-in-Charge of Tertiary Education, Prof. Kwesi Yankah says he never said government cannot employ graduates.

According to him, his admonition for graduates to be entrepreneurs was misconstrued by sections of the media for mischief purposes.

Prof Yankah has come under a barrage of attacks following media publication attributing the statement to him.

Addressing graduands in Bachelor of Technology Higher National Diploma and Diploma Course at Koforidua Technical University in the Eastern region, he is reported to have said government cannot employ them.

Rather, he asked them to establish their own jobs to employ others and would be supported by government.

But on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem Tuesday, Prof. Yankah expressed shock at the publication attributed to him.

He said he only urged the youth must take their fate and destinies into their own hands as private sector entrepreneurs.

“I find it strange the media reported what I said this way. I advised the graduates to be entrepreneurs but never said government cannot employ them” he stressed.

Minister of State-in-Charge of Tertiary Education noted given the unemployment situation in the country, government is creating the needed environment for private sector businesses to thrive.

Prof Yankah is confident the unemployment situation in the country will change under the Akufo-Addo led government.
