National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Greater Accra Regional Secretary, Theophilus Tetteh Chaie, has disclosed that the party, led by its flagbearer, former President John Mahama, will soon begin campaigning in Senior High Schools (SHSs) in Ghana.

To Mr Tetteh Chaie, the decision follows an address by President Nana Akufo-Addo to students and teachers of Bolgatanga SHS in the Upper East region where he said Ghanaians will not vote for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2020, because of their determination to cancel the free Senior High School policy.

Responding to the President on Adom TV’s Badwam show, Mr Chaie said the NDC will only be emulating the steps of the president.

“It was dangerous for President Akufo-Addo to have said that in front of the students but they have opened the floodgates for us and we (NDC) will soon also go to campaign,” he said.

Meanwhile, he dismissed claims that the NDC will cancel the free SHS policy if voted into power in 2020.

“Neither NDC nor former President Mahama at no point said we will cancel the free SHS policy if voted into power. We only meant we will correct the anomalies with the policy regarding the issues of accommodation, classrooms and other bottlenecks because we believe the implementation was not thought through,” he clarified.
