The National Service Personnel Association (NASPAA) has called on all National Service Personnel across the country to participate in the two-day National General Cleaning Exercise declared by the Presidency to support post-flood recovery efforts.
In a communiqué issued on Wednesday, July 8, the Association urged personnel to take part in the exercise scheduled for Friday, July 10, and Saturday, July 11, in their respective regions, districts, municipalities, institutions, and communities of service.
The Presidency designated the two days as National General Cleaning Days in the seven regions affected by the recent floods as part of measures to restore sanitation and prevent possible disease outbreaks.
The exercise, themed “Our Actions, Our Future: Cleaning Ghana after the floods,” will focus on desilting choked drains, sweeping major roads, and cleaning public spaces including markets, lorry parks, and communal waste collection points.
NASPAA said the initiative provides an opportunity for National Service Personnel to contribute to national development while demonstrating patriotism and civic responsibility.
“As young people serving the nation, we have a responsibility to demonstrate patriotism, discipline and commitment to community development,” the Association stated.
To ensure the success of the exercise, NASPAA directed its Regional, District, and Municipal executives to work with Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), security agencies, institutional heads, and waste management teams to effectively mobilise personnel.
The Association also encouraged all service personnel to make themselves available for the exercise, come along with appropriate cleaning tools where possible, and cooperate with officials coordinating activities in their respective areas.
