A mother and her six-month old baby have been burnt to death at Nkoransa in the Brong Ahafo Region.

The incident happened at Kasadjan a suburb of Nkoransa Township around 4:30 pm on Monday.

The incident threw the Nkoransa Township into a state of mourning following the incident.

An witness Charles Osei, who spoke to The Finder said the deceased, known in the area as Ameriya, wife of a fire officer, was cooking on a small cylinder in her porch when the incident occurred.

“When the deceased saw that the fire had engulfed the porch, she decided to go and rescue of her baby and in the process, the fire became intense killing the two,” Mr. Osei recounted.

He said neighbours after seeing the incident rushed to the house and tried to quench the fire with sand and water but they were not unsuccessful.

Officers of the Ghana National Fire Service, who came around, had a tough time in bringing the fire under control.

The charred bodies of the two have been deposited at the St. Theresa’s Hospital in Nkoransa by the Police.

The Finder gathered that the husband of the deceased was not in town at the time of the incident. He had travelled to the Republic of Togo.
