Budding musician Mophty has finally opened up about his disappointment after Mr Drew failed to sign him unto his record label despite their strong professional relationship.

Mophty said his hopes were raised after their successful collaborations on songs such as Case and Pity, which made him eager to work more closely with the former Highly Spiritual Music signee.

Mr Drew had earlier spoken about offering free verses and signing artistes, creating the impression that a record deal could be possible. However, when the conversation turned to signing him, Mr Drew was direct about his inability to do so.

“He told me point-blank he couldn’t sign me, and that got me heartbroken,” Mophty said, explaining that he had looked forward to working with the singer beyond their collaborations.

He acknowledged, however, that Mr Drew was going through a difficult period at the time, particularly as he was also preparing to leave Highly Spiritual Music.

Mophty said those circumstances made it challenging for the singer to take on the responsibility of signing another artiste.

Despite his disappointment, Mophty said he appreciated Mr Drew’s honesty and did not interpret the decision as a personal rejection.

Mophty also clarified that their relationship remains cordial, stressing that they still communicate through digital platforms despite not having formalised a professional arrangement.
