The animal merchant reportedly did the horrific act in the immediate presence of his wife, cops told the outlet.

He was reportedly arguing with his wife in their garage on September 8 while their children were home.

At one point, Johnson brought a Glock-style handgun up to his head and pulled the trigger, according to the incident report.

Johnson’s wife then called 911 for attempted suicide and when officers arrived they said he still had a pulse.

The star was then rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

His wife reportedly said that her husband had not suffered from any mental illness, nor had she experienced him attempt suicide before.

Johnson made a brief appearance in episode four of the first season of Tiger King, where he spoke to Carole Baskin.

Following the news, Baskin told The Sun: “My heart goes out to his family.”

He explained the controversies between Joe Exotic and Baskin on-camera during his appearance.

Johnson and Exotic were said to be friends at once, but they quickly turned to enemies when Jeff Lowe came into the picture.

TMZ claimed that Jeff’s home was burned down during the feeding, however, it is unclear if his issues with Lowe and Exotic had anything to do with this.

This is the latest tragedy to strike the Tiger King set, following the passing of zookeeper Erik Cowie.

Cowie was found dead lying face down in a bed at an apartment in Brooklyn, New York Cityon September 3.

One of his friends made the shocking discovery, it was reported at the time.

The medical examiner has now determined that Cowie’s cause of death was “acute and chronic alcohol use” and that the manner was “natural.”

In the past, Cowie has admitted to having a drinking problem but denied speculation he was a meth addict.

Earlier this year, he ran into legal trouble after being busted for a DUI in Oklahoma following a car accident.

However, he did not show up to his court appearance, which led to an arrest warrant being issued in May.
