The Minister of State in charge of Food and Agriculture, Dr Gyiele Nurah, says government has disinfected two farms where the bird flu virus was discovered at Nsawam and Nkawkaw to prevent a further spread of the disease.

This comes after an outbreak of the bird flu killed about 11,816 birds on the two farms.

Dr Nurah has told Adom News the Agric and Health Ministries collaborated in the disinfection exercise.

He says the entire infected farm tool on both farms has also been buried.

Dr Nurah says there is, therefore, no cause for alarm because the disinfection is being extended to the houses of people who bought birds from those two farms.

Meanwhile, the Vice Chairman of the Poultry Farmers Association, Napoleon Agyemang Oduro says their leaders failed to inform them about the outbreak until they heard it in the news.

He is, therefore, urging the leaders of the Association to give them early alert on such matters so they could take the necessary precautions.
