The Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Dr. Yussif Sulemana has commissioned an astro turf sports complex funded by the Minerals Commission at Kenyasi in the Asutifi North District of the Ahafo Region to improve the development of sporting talents.
The facility has dressing rooms, floodlights, car park, VIP stand among others.
Addressing the chiefs, staff of minerals commission, workers of Newmont Ahafo South Mine, staff of Asutifi North District Assembly, security services, youth groups, residents among others, Dr. Sulemana said he is pleased to know that the facility wasn’t imposed onto the chiefs and people, but instead it was a demand from them to help improve the development of sporting talents in the area.
According to him, the commissioning of this facility started by the previous government clearly tells that the resetting agenda by this government is in full force where many of uncompleted projects under the last administration will be completed, commissioned and put into full use for the country to have value for money.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Minerals Commission, Isaac Andrews Tandoh also in his address indicated that his office remains committed to ensure that communities where minerals are extracted by mining firms get deserving facilities to improve the lives of residents, and the commissioned of the Astro Turf Sports Complex is a testimony.
Meanwhile, the Minister for Ahafo Region, Charity Gardiner on behalf of the region commended the minerals commission and the government for the facility which is facilitate and play major role in developing sporting talents for the country.
Aside this, she added that the facility can be used for social gathering among others, therefore they will hold it with high esteem and keep asking for more from the Minerals Commission.
The Saamanhene of Kenyasi No1, Nana Anim Dankwah who chaired the event on behalf of the Paramount Chief, Nana Osei Kofi Abiri in his address noted that the availability of this sports complex will help create opportunities for the youth to reduce unemployment, therefore they are grateful to Minerals Commission and Newmont Gold Ghana.
He said, chiefs within the five mining communities (Kenyasi No1, Kenyasi No2, Ntotroso, Gyedu and Womanhinso) where Newmont operates will keenly ensure that the facility is sustained to serve its intend purpose.
