Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has acknowledged the sacrifices made by Ghanaians during the country’s economic challenges, assuring citizens that their resilience has laid the foundation for a stronger economy.
Presenting the 2026 Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review in Parliament on Thursday, July 23, Dr Forson said government’s efforts to stabilise the economy were made possible by the patience and endurance of ordinary Ghanaians.
He said the government’s commitment was to move the economy “from the emergency room to the wellness centre,” adding that the progress recorded so far belonged to the people of Ghana.
“Let me be clear, these achievements do not belong to Government. They belong to the people of Ghana,” he told Parliament.
Dr Forson said behind every economic figure and policy achievement was the sacrifice of citizens, including pensioners who accepted difficult adjustments, businesses that absorbed high costs, and millions of Ghanaians who endured tough economic conditions.
He also mentioned the contributions of market traders, nurses, teachers, entrepreneurs and young graduates who remained resilient during what he described as some of the hardest periods in the country’s recent history.
According to the Finance Minister, economic stabilisation was achieved not only through government decisions but also through the patience and resilience of citizens across homes, farms, workshops and marketplaces.
He acknowledged that despite improvements in economic indicators, challenges remain for households.
“We know that low inflation alone does not refill an empty pot; we know that a stronger cedi does not instantly repair a household budget stretched by years of economic mismanagement and crisis,” he said.
Dr Forson admitted that there is still a gap between economic recovery and the relief experienced by families at the household level.
However, he maintained that the sacrifices made by Ghanaians had secured a strong foundation upon which government would continue to build.
“Your sacrifice was not in vain. It secured something priceless, a firm foundation. And on that foundation, we will build the Ghana we want,” he said.
The Finance Minister, on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, expressed appreciation to Ghanaians, including traders, farmers, teachers, entrepreneurs and young people seeking opportunities, for their resilience and commitment to the country.
“Your sacrifice is the reason Ghana is standing today. Your future is the reason we refuse to stop here,” Dr Forson added.
