The Mfantsipim School community has been thrown into mourning following the death of a 17-year-old final-year student whose body was found in an uncompleted building at Ola North in Cape Coast.
The deceased, Emmanuel Arthur, was preparing to sit this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
According to the Central Regional Police Command, the discovery was made after a carpenter working in the area reported the presence of a body in the abandoned structure to the police.
Officers who responded to the scene on June 11, 2026, carried out preliminary investigations and retrieved several personal belongings believed to belong to the student.
Among the items were a black backpack containing study materials, including a Geography mock examination paper bearing Emmanuel Arthur’s name, two mobile phones, and other personal effects.
The evidence led investigators to contact authorities at Mfantsipim School, who confirmed that Emmanuel was a student of the school. His family was subsequently notified and assisted with the identification process.
Police said the body was discovered several days after the incident and was later examined by a pathologist at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital before being released to the family for burial.
As part of safety and public health measures, the uncompleted building where the body was found was fumigated following the recovery operation.
Investigators have since determined that the student died by suicide. However, police say efforts are still underway to establish what may have led to the incident.
