Asante Kotoko Director of Football Stanley Menzo says the club made the right decision by appointing Eric Tinkler as their new head coach ahead of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.

The South African was confirmed as Kotoko’s new manager as the club seeks to rebuild following a disappointing campaign in which they failed to finish in the top four.

Tinkler, a former coach of Orlando Pirates and Cape Town City, arrives at the Kumasi-based club with the task of restoring Kotoko to the upper reaches of Ghanaian football.

Menzo said he was convinced the club had appointed the best available candidate.

“We appointed the best coach we could have. He has built clubs to a high standard,” Menzo told the club’s official media.

Tinkler is expected to oversee a new chapter for the Porcupine Warriors as they prepare for the new league campaign.

Kotoko are currently in Accra as part of their pre-season preparations, with the club using the period to build fitness and assess the squad ahead of the competitive season.

Their preparations will include a high-profile meeting with arch-rivals Hearts of Oak in the 2026 Democracy Cup.

The fixture will provide Tinkler with an early opportunity to assess his players in a competitive setting while giving supporters a first glimpse of the new-look Kotoko under the South African coach.

Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko will open their 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season with an away game against Debibi United.
