The former Member of Parliament for Afram Plains North Constituency, Bettey Seyram Krosbi Mensah, has called on Ghanaian women who have made it in their respective fields to endeavour to mentor young ladies and not to leave them behind.

The two-term MP stressed that it is only through mentoring that women can help train the young ones to take up the challenges of the future with virtue and properly play their roles in shaping society.

The women’s advocate, in an interview with Adom News’ Ohene Amponsah, emphasized the need for continuous efforts and proper plans to help create opportunities for young women.

On the challenges facing young people, the former MP noted that social media and artificial intelligence (AI), though positive tools, are being abused by some, with the erroneous impression that many happenings are real life.

The Technical Advisor to the Minister of Youth & Recreation, who doubles as the National Coordinator for the National Recreation & Wellness Programme, explained that Ghana has made a lot of strides in uplifting women through the popular 31st December Women’s Movement and her own foundation, Betty Ladies, among several others, but argued that more must be done since there are still many young women with aspirations.

“Ghana getting the first female Vice President (Prof. Jane Nana Opoku Agyemang) means the future will not only be interesting but very promising, and we can’t help but take full advantage of the time.”

The former legislator is appealing to all women, especially prominent and successful ones, to directly and continually support and mentor the young ones to achieve their aims.

“I have mentored some young ladies and they are doing well, but my individual effort cannot be compared to a collective effort by women.”

On the opportunities and competitiveness of Ghanaian political leadership, Madam Seyram Krosbi Mensah who is also the National Coordinator-Recreation & Wellness Programme called on women to be inspired and motivated to fight to take up their seats.

“None will offer it to you freely. The centre of decision-making as a woman requires you to double your efforts in humility, honesty, and service to humanity.”

“Political parties in Ghana must formulate strong policies and programmes allowing women to be at the centre of the decision-making process too,” she added.
