The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested a 53-year-old man, Alhaji Abdulai Sayuti, for the unlawful possession and sale of restricted pharmaceutical drugs in Tamale.
Sayuti was arrested on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, around 1:30 p.m. during an intelligence-led operation at Victory Cinema near Aboabo, where he operates an over-the-counter (OTC) chemical shop.
He was arraigned before court on Wednesday, July 16, where he pleaded guilty to charges of possessing and selling restricted drugs without authorization.
Reports indicate that Sayuti collapsed during the court proceedings and was rushed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) for medical attention.
According to a police statement, a search at his shop uncovered 368 blisters of tramadol (120 mg) and 298 blisters of tramaking (120 mg), both potent opioids classified as restricted under Ghanaian law.
Further investigations led police to the suspect’s residence in Fuo, a suburb of Tamale, where a warehouse containing 447 boxes of tramadol and 11 boxes of tramaking was discovered.
