The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old man, identified as Tumbana Ane, in connection with the alleged distribution of illicit drugs at Paga in the Kassena-Nankana West District.
A police operation at the suspect’s residence led to the seizure of 38 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, as well as other prohibited substances, including Tramadol.
The arrest, according to the Police, forms part of ongoing efforts to disrupt the distribution and use of illicit drugs and tackle related criminal activities in the region.
In a statement issued on Monday, October 5, the Command said the suspected narcotic substances were discovered during a search of Ane’s residence.
The search also uncovered a tunnel at the property, which has become a key focus of the Police investigation.
Investigators suspect the tunnel may have been deliberately constructed to conceal illicit substances and could also have served as an escape route in the event of an attempted arrest or police operation.
The Police said investigations have been intensified to establish the full extent of Ane’s alleged activities and determine whether other individuals are connected to the suspected drug distribution network.
Preliminary findings have also allegedly linked Ane to the operation of brothels at an illegal mining site at Wuru, a suburb of the Kayoro community in the Kassena-Nankana West District.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
