The Central East Regional Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man for allegedly stealing and selling 50 live pigs from a piggery farm at Amuzukope in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region.
The suspect, Evans Pinkra, popularly known as Kwame Agyei, is said to have worked as a caretaker at the farm where the pigs were allegedly stolen.
Speaking at a press conference, the Central East Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Nchor, said the suspect allegedly sold the stolen pigs to various pork joints and buyers in the area.
According to him, the suspect was arrested and subsequently prosecuted over the alleged theft.
DCOP Nchor disclosed that the Kasoa Ofaakor Circuit Court found Evans Pinkra guilty and sentenced him to five months’ imprisonment.
Meanwhile, the Central East Regional Police Command has also arrested two persons in connection with the possession of six parcels of suspected cannabis at Kasoa.
The two suspects, identified as Asandoo Asakra and Beatrice Amegashie, were arrested after police intercepted a Voxy minibus during a snap check at Kasoa High Tension.
The Regional Police Commander said the incident occurred at about 2:30 a.m. on September 20.
A search of the vehicle, he said, led to the discovery of six parcels of suspected cannabis.
The two suspects have since been arrested and remanded into police custody as investigations continue.
