The Nkwanta North District in the Oti Region, considered one of the poorest in the area, continues to face deep economic challenges that disproportionately affect women.

With limited access to income-generating opportunities and employable skills, many women in the district remain financially dependent on their husbands, who themselves often struggle to support their families.

In response, the MAAPI Foundation, a women-focused initiative aimed at equipping women with vocational skills and practical training, has been established to improve livelihoods.

The foundation has begun empowering over 100 women through skills acquisition programmes designed to help participants build sustainable sources of income and contribute meaningfully to household needs.

Speaking to Adom News, the CEO of the foundation, Mary Hundo, said the initiative was inspired by the difficult living conditions observed in the district.

According to her, many women lack employable skills and have limited opportunities to earn income, leaving them vulnerable during times of hardship.

She emphasised that empowering women goes beyond individual independence, noting that it also strengthens families and communities.

Madam Hundo further disclosed that the foundation’s support extends beyond classroom training.

She explained that upon completion of the programme, beneficiaries will receive seed capital to help them start or expand small businesses. In addition, the MAAPI Foundation will monitor their progress for six months, offering guidance and support to ensure they are stable and confident in applying their skills.

Meanwhile, the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the MAAPI Foundation for the initiative, describing it as life-changing.

They thanked the organisation for investing in their future and prayed for its continued success and expansion.

Beneficiaries were also encouraged to take the programme seriously, as it has the potential to transform their lives if they remain committed.
