Former president John Dramani Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama has urged Ghanaians to go out in their numbers and vote in the ongoing district level elections.

The election to elect Assembly and Unit Committee Members is currently ongoing albeit with protests from some communities.

Perhaps to encourage many more people to vote, the former president has, via his official facebook account, called for people to go out and vote.

“I wish all aspirants well and encourage all eligible Ghanaians to step out between now and 5 pm to cast our votes,” he said.

On the importance of the decentralised elections, the former president said the district level elections have enhanced grassroots participation in governance and empowers citizens to be directly involved in governance.

“District Level Elections has, since its inception, ensured grassroots participation in the governance of our country,” his post on facebook stated in part.

The exercise started 7am and will end at 5pm with about 57,030 candidates set to contest the election.
