Minister for Lands and Natural Resources Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has held discussions with the leadership of Shandong Gold Group in China on strengthening cooperation in sustainable mining and expanding the company’s investment footprint in Ghana.
The Minister, in a Facebook post, said he met the leadership of the Chinese mining company at its headquarters in Jinan, where they explored opportunities for sustainable resource management and deeper strategic collaboration.
Mr Armah-Kofi Buah highlighted Shandong Gold’s environmental practices, particularly its large-scale land rehabilitation, tree-planting initiatives and strong emphasis on worker safety.
He described the company’s approach as a model of modern mining that Ghana could seek to replicate in its efforts to promote responsible and environmentally sustainable resource extraction.
During the engagement, the Minister encouraged Shandong Gold to increase its use of advanced and environmentally friendly technologies in its mining operations.
He specifically advocated the deployment of electric mining vehicles as part of measures to reduce the environmental footprint of mining while protecting Ghana’s ecological resources.
Mr Armah-Kofi Buah said Ghana was ready to deepen its partnership with Shandong Gold on a mutually beneficial basis.
He also formally invited the company to consider Ghana as a central hub for its broader industrial expansion across Africa.
The engagement forms part of efforts by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to attract responsible investment while promoting environmentally sustainable mining practices in Ghana.
