Asante Kotoko Board Chairman James Osei Brown has charged newly appointed head coach Eric Tinkler to lead the club to the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League title and build a team capable of competing at the highest level.

The Porcupine Warriors confirmed the appointment of the South African tactician on a long-term contract ahead of the new season, with the club’s leadership expressing confidence in his ability to restore success.

Speaking during an official address to the new coach, Osei Brown pledged the club’s full support while outlining the expectations placed on Tinkler.

“The expectation is that we want you to win us the league and then take us to where all of us want us to be,” he said.

“You have our full support,” he added.

Tinkler joins Kotoko with extensive experience in African football, having managed several top South African clubs, including Orlando Pirates, SuperSport United, Cape Town City, Maritzburg United and Bidvest Wits.

The 54-year-old has enjoyed success on both domestic and continental fronts, guiding Orlando Pirates to the CAF Champions League final and leading SuperSport United to the CAF Confederation Cup final. He has also won major domestic trophies, including the MTN8 and Telkom Knockout.

Before moving into coaching, Tinkler was a celebrated midfielder who captained South Africa and made 48 appearances for Bafana Bafana.

He was part of the South African team that won the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations and represented the country at the 1998 FIFA World Cup.

At club level, he played in Europe, featuring for teams in England, Italy and Portugal, including Barnsley and Cagliari.

Tinkler has now begun work with Kotoko following the start of the club’s pre-season preparations ahead of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.

The Porcupine Warriors will be hoping the experienced coach can restore their domestic dominance and build a squad capable of challenging for major honours.
