Black Stars goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, following Ghana’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
The Hearts of Oak goalkeeper met with the sector minister to express his appreciation and acknowledge the support provided to the national team ahead of and during the global tournament.
Asare was part of Ghana’s squad for the World Cup and played a key role in the Black Stars’ campaign.
The former Great Olympics shot-stopper made his World Cup debut in Ghana’s opening group match against Panama after coming on in the first half.
He was later handed a starting role in the Black Stars’ crucial second group game against England, where he delivered an impressive performance to help Ghana secure a goalless draw against the Three Lions.
His display against England earned widespread praise, with many commending his composure, reflexes and leadership under pressure on football’s biggest stage.
Asare also started Ghana’s final group match against Croatia, further highlighting his importance to the team during the tournament.
Although Ghana’s campaign ended at the Round of 32 stage following a defeat to Colombia, Asare was among the players who received recognition for his performances throughout the competition.
During his visit to Kofi Adams, who is also the Member of Parliament for Buem, the goalkeeper expressed gratitude for the minister’s support while strengthening his relationship with Ghana’s sports leadership.
With the World Cup now concluded, Asare and his Black Stars teammates will turn their attention to the next major assignment — the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Ghana has been drawn in Group C alongside Côte d’Ivoire, Somalia and The Gambia, with the qualifying campaign scheduled to begin in September as the Black Stars seek a return to Africa’s premier football tournament.
