The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has commissioned a newly renovated 24-hour Pharmacy Annex as part of efforts to modernise pharmaceutical services and improve patient care.
The facility, which has undergone its first major renovation in over two decades, is expected to enhance service delivery and improve the overall patient experience at the hospital.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Chief Executive Officer, Yakubu Seidu Adam, described the project as a major milestone in the hospital’s ongoing transformation agenda.
He said the renovation aligns with management’s broader vision to reposition the pharmacy as a central point of care, while creating a more efficient and patient-friendly environment.

According to him, the newly commissioned annex represents the first phase of a wider redevelopment plan, with additional upgrades expected in subsequent stages to standardise facilities across the Pharmacy Directorate.
Dr. Adam also revealed that discussions are ongoing with the Ga Mantse on plans to establish a new purpose-built 24-hour pharmacy complex near the hospital’s administration block.
He encouraged the Pharmacy Directorate to adopt digital platforms that would allow patients to access and purchase medication remotely, easing congestion and improving convenience.

The CEO further stressed the need for proper maintenance of the facility and collaboration with the hospital’s engineering team to ensure its longevity.
The project was supported by partners, including Hills Pharmacy, which played a key role in its completion.
The upgraded annex is expected to significantly improve access to medicines for both inpatients and outpatients, strengthening Korle Bu’s position as a leading healthcare institution in the country.
