The Member of Parliament for Ketu North, Eric Edem Agbana, has called for urgent measures to provide accommodation for customs officers stationed at national revenue collection points, including Dzodze.

He said the lack of suitable housing had forced some officers to lodge in hostels and hotels, a situation he believes could undermine their welfare and effectiveness.

Mr Agbana made the appeal when the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Anthony Kwasi Sarpong, appeared before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

He urged the Authority to prioritise accommodation for officers posted to border communities and other revenue collection points, noting that the high cost and limited availability of housing could make living conditions difficult for personnel, particularly in the Volta Region.

The MP stressed the need for structured housing arrangements to ensure officers have decent places to live while carrying out their duties.

In response, Mr Sarpong said the GRA had begun plans to renovate its existing bungalows across the country to provide accommodation for officers.

The initiative, he said, is intended to make the Authority’s residential facilities habitable and improve the living conditions of staff posted to various locations.
