Former Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has officially handed over the affairs of the Ministry to his successor, Ahmed Ibrahim, following his reassignment as Minister for Defence by President John Dramani Mahama.
At a brief handing-over ceremony held at the Ministry in Accra, both the outgoing and incoming Ministers signed the official handing-over documents to formalize the transition.
Mr. Adjei, who served as Works, Housing and Water Resources Minister from February 2025 to August 2026, urged Mr. Ibrahim to build on the achievements chalked up so far and bring fresh ideas to accelerate progress in the sector and the country at large.
He noted that his tenure was marked by collaboration, service and learning, with focus on tackling Ghana’s housing deficit, improving water supply, addressing flooding, and reviving stalled projects including the Saglemi Housing Project.
In an emotional farewell to management and staff of the Ministry, Mr. Adjei expressed profound gratitude for their professionalism and dedication.
“I can’t thank you enough,” he told staff, acknowledging that the modest progress made during his tenure was the result of collective effort.
Mr. Adjei is now heading to the Ministry of Defence, where he takes over from the late Dr. Edward Omane Boamah. He previously served as Deputy Defence Minister from 2015 to 2017.
Mr. Ibrahim moves to the Works, Housing and Water Resources Ministry from the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs as part of President Mahama’s cabinet reshuffle on August 7, 2026.
