The chief of Kade in the Eastern Region, Osabarima Agyare Tenadu II, known in private life as William Kwame Apaw, has announced his abdication after 21 years on the throne.

In a statement dated October 22, 2025, Osabarima Agyare Tenadu II said his decision was guided by a desire to restore peace, unity, and development in both Kade and Okyeman.

He expressed sincere gratitude to the Aduana family for the trust they placed in him throughout his two decades of leadership.

During his reign, he oversaw several development initiatives, including infrastructure projects and social programs aimed at improving the welfare of his people.

However, his tenure also reportedly faced turbulence, marked by legal disputes and a long-standing legitimacy case with the National House of Chiefs.

The announcement of his abdication has sparked widespread reaction across the Eastern Region, with many describing it as both historic and unexpected.

Osabarima Agyare Tenadu II leaves behind a legacy defined by service, resilience, and mixed emotions, one that blends notable accomplishments with enduring controversies and the unmistakable devotion of his people.

A video shared on social media by Accra-based GTV captured moments of his unexpected declaration, which threw the Kade Palace into an emotional scene.

Men and women alike were seen crying and pleading with the chief to reconsider, with some attempting to stop him from leaving.
