Presidential staffer Nana Yaa Jantuah has revealed that she narrowly escaped becoming a victim of the devastating floods that swept through parts of Accra on June 29.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Madam Jantuah said she initially underestimated the severity of the rainfall, believing it was an ordinary downpour.

According to her, she only changed her plans after realising that heavy traffic would cause her to arrive late at her destination.

“I almost became a victim. What saved me was time. I took it as a normal rain,” she recounted.

“When I got to a certain point and I checked the time and the traffic, I realised I would be late. If not for that, I would have been a victim. I think people also thought it was normal rain,” she stated.

Nana Yaa Jantuah extended her condolences to families who lost loved ones in the floods and sympathised with all those whose homes and properties were affected.

“All those who have lost their lives, we are deeply sorry for the loss. We sympathise with everyone affected,” she said.

The presidential staffer welcomed efforts by the government to provide relief to victims, expressing hope that those who suffered losses would receive the necessary support.

“I am happy that a relief system is being set up for those who have lost their properties and others,” she noted.

Madam Jantuah stressed the need for intensified public education on flood risks and safety measures, especially during the rainy season.

She also called for improved communication and timely interventions whenever heavy rains are forecast to help residents make informed decisions.

“I believe sensitisation and education are key,” she said.

“Going forward, if there are more rains, I think there should be more information and interventions. Right now it has happened, what should be our way forward? It’s a pathetic situation,” she added.
