A jealous man has been jailed for assaulting his ex-girlfriend and hurling a gas canister at her car after a man liked a photo on her Facebook page.

Steven Dobb was trying to woo his ex back and they had gone out for a meal and drinks and every thing was fine when they returned to his home.

Nottingham Crown Court heard that an argument erupted after the 39-year-old saw the ‘like’ on her Facebook page.

When his defenceless victim tried to call a taxi to take her home he grabbed her phone and threw it to the floor.

The court was told he hurled abuse at her before grabbing hold of her wrist and neck and pushing her down to the floor.

As she lay on the floor he kicked her in her back.

After his brutal attack his victim managed to leave and make her way home but Dobb had followed her.

He punched the windows of her car and hurled a gas canister at the vehicle causing substantial damage to he bodywork and windscreen.

Dobb from Nottinghamshire, was jailed last week for 12 months after he admitted common assault and two counts of criminal damage.

Pc Oivind Merrygold, who led the investigation, said: “This was an argument about nothing and erupted quickly after a night out.

“This must have been a frightening experience for the woman, who thankfully suffered no serious injuries other than bruising to her back and arms.

“We are pleased with the result from the court. The force takes domestic assaults very seriously.

“The sentence will hopefully give confidence to those who are experiencing domestic violence to seek help from the police.”
