The President of the Institute of Project Management Professionals, Ghana (IPMP), Dr. Mark Owusu Ansah, has called on the government to engage and collaborate with project management professionals in the planning and execution of public projects to reduce the incidence of stalled and abandoned projects across the country.
He said involving professionals in project implementation would help ensure effective project delivery, promote accountability and minimise the financial losses associated with abandoned and uncompleted government projects.
Dr. Owusu Ansah made the call at the Institute’s 2026 Annual Conference and 10th Anniversary celebration.
He stressed the need for government to tap into the expertise of project management professionals to ensure that public projects are properly planned, efficiently managed and completed within the stipulated time and budget.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the IPMP Governing Council Board, Professor Jonathan Annan, has commended Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson for advocating commitment to government projects across successive administrations.

Professor Annan underscored the importance of ensuring continuity in public projects, regardless of changes in government, to prevent the waste of public funds and ensure that projects initiated are completed for the benefit of citizens.
He indicated that sustained commitment to public projects, coupled with effective monitoring and professional oversight, would help address the recurring challenge of abandoned government projects.
The calls come amid concerns over the financial implications of stalled public projects and the need for stronger project management practices to ensure value for money in the use of public resources.
The IPMP says greater collaboration between government and project management professionals could be key to improving project delivery and ensuring that public investments yield the intended benefits for Ghanaians.
