
A violent attack at the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) inland checkpoint at Gbintri in the East Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region has left one officer dead and another seriously injured.
The incident happened in the early hours of Friday, October 3, 2025, at about 1:30 a.m.
Accra-based Citi News reported that unidentified gunmen opened fire on the officers stationed at the post.
Assistant Immigration Control Officer II (AICO II) Rafiq Mohammed was fatally shot, while his colleague, AICO II Oppong Daniel, sustained severe injuries to his jaw and back.
He is currently receiving medical care at the Baptist Medical Centre in Nalerigu.
Investigators retrieved AK-47 shell casings from the scene, along with a GIS service rifle bearing registration number GH/GIS/HQACN 668516-1646.

A joint security team, led by Superintendent Francis Brobbey, Municipal Police Commander at Gambaga, and DIS Moro Tanko Mohammed, North Regional Intelligence Officer of GIS, was immediately deployed to secure the area and begin investigations.
Authorities have launched a full inquiry into the circumstances of the shooting and are working to identify and apprehend the attackers.
Meanwhile, officials have assured the public that updates will be provided as the investigation advances.
