Former U17 World Cup winner, Nii Odartey Lamptey says he is not surprised about the performance of the Black Starlets in the ongoing World Cup competition in India.

According to Nii Odartey Lamptey, the boys performance was the output of the inadequate preparation prior to the competition.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate sports show, he said “I am not surprised the Black Starlets failed because we did not improve the team after the African Youth Championship. We lacked enough preparations”.

“Mali at the world cup in India is an improvement from the youth championship and are playing very well. The remaining countries are playing good football and we could not have won the cup if we stayed” Nii Odartey Lamptey

Meanwhile, former captain of the Black Stars Coach C.K Akunnor said the Starlets  did not play as a unit.

For the head coach of Ashanti Gold, the players exhibited individual talents and did not support each other to win.

“The players we took to India refused to play as a team and were very individualistic. They were not playing to win for the country but they were playing to catch the attention of scouts around and this cost” Akunnor said.

The Black Starlets are expected back in Ghana after failing to go past the quarter finals stage of the ongoing FIFA U17 world cup.
