Ibrahim Tanko and Godwin Attram are among the candidates being considered to take charge of Ghana’s Black Stars on an interim basis.
The move follows the resignation of Carlos Queiroz after Ghana’s disappointing start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
A five-member committee has been tasked with recommending a new coach for the senior national team, with the immediate priority being the Black Stars’ November double-header against Somalia.
With the committee set to submit their report on Friday, October 9, a report by Accra-based 3Sports reveals that Medeama head coach Tanko and Black Stars assistant coach Attram are among the names being discussed for the interim position.
Both coaches have experience within Ghana’s national team setup.
Tanko previously served as an assistant coach of the Black Stars and also managed the Black Meteors, Ghana’s under-23 side. Attram, meanwhile, is already part of the Black Stars’ technical team.
Ghana’s poor start to the AFCON qualifiers has increased the urgency surrounding the appointment.
The Black Stars lost 2-0 away to Côte d’Ivoire in their opening Group C fixture before suffering a 4-2 defeat by The Gambia in Accra, despite taking a two-goal lead.
Those results have left Ghana without a point from their opening two matches as they attempt to qualify for the AFCON after missing the 2025 tournament in Morocco.
The Black Stars will face Somalia twice in November, with the matches providing the next opportunity to revive their qualifying campaign.
After the November fixtures, Ghana will not play another AFCON qualifier until March 2027, when they are scheduled to face Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia in their final two matches.
That four-month gap could give the committee more time to assess potential candidates before a permanent appointment is made.
For now, the focus is on finding an interim coach capable of guiding Ghana through the crucial November fixtures and keeping their hopes of reaching the 2027 AFCON alive.
