Ghana midfielder Ibrahim Sulemana has joined Serie A side Sassuolo on a season-long loan from Atalanta, with the newly promoted club holding an option to make the move permanent.
The 23-year-old completed the switch on transfer deadline day, signing a one-year deal that includes the option to extend his stay through a three-year permanent transfer.
The move ensures Sulemana remains in Italy’s top flight after a campaign that saw him spend time at both Bologna and Cagliari.
The Sunyani-born midfielder began the 2025-26 season at Bologna before returning to his parent club, Atalanta, in January.
He was then loaned to Cagliari for the second half of the campaign, with both temporary spells ending before his latest move to Sassuolo.
Sulemana joined Atalanta permanently from Cagliari in July 2024 in a deal worth €7.4m, having previously moved to Cagliari from Hellas Verona after progressing through Verona’s youth academy.
A right-footed defensive midfielder, Sulemana has yet to feature in Serie A or the UEFA Conference League qualifying rounds during the opening weeks of the 2026-27 season.
On the international stage, Sulemana made his Ghana debut in June 2024 during a World Cup qualifier against Mali, replacing Salis Abdul Samed late in a dramatic 2-1 victory secured by a stoppage-time winner.
He has since earned seven caps for the Black Stars.
