The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has ended a self-imposed six-month break from media engagements to commend the establishment of Lambussie FM, describing it as a vital platform for promoting local voices.

Speaking during an interview on the newly commissioned station in the Upper West Region, Mr Asiedu Nketia explained that although he had deliberately avoided media appearances throughout his nationwide Thank You tour, the significance of the occasion compelled him to make an exception.

“I decided as a policy to avoid media interviews until I end the tour, but I am compelled to break that tradition because Lambussie now has its own mouthpiece,” he stated shortly after commissioning the station.

He emphasised that access to community-based media plays a crucial role in shaping balanced public discourse, particularly in areas that have long relied on external sources for information.

“When people are fed only with news from outside their district, their perspectives are shaped by others. It is important that communities have the opportunity to tell their own stories,” he noted.

According to him, the presence of a local radio station will empower residents of Lambussie to share their own narratives and contribute meaningfully to both local and national conversations.

Mr Asiedu Nketia also expressed appreciation to constituents in the area for their continued support for the NDC, indicating that the party’s performance in the constituency has seen improvement after a period of inconsistency.

“The constituency went through ups and downs, but I believe we are back on track,” he said.

He described the reception from residents during his visit as encouraging and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to deepening grassroots engagement.

Touching on the broader media landscape, he underscored the need for pluralism, stressing that balanced storytelling requires hearing “both the hunter and the lion” in every narrative.
