There were tears in the room, but they were not tears of sadness alone.
Some came from pain. Others came from relief. Some were shed while women told stories they had carried quietly for years, while others flowed as they listened and realised that someone else understood exactly what they had been through.
That was the emotional heart of the maiden ‘Be Inspired by Tima’ Women’s Conference.
Under the theme ‘Turning Pain into Purpose’, the gathering became a rare meeting of girlhood; a space where women could put down their guard, share their experiences and find comfort in the presence of others.
One woman’s story often became another woman’s reminder that she was not alone.
As experiences were shared, the room moved between tears, laughter, hugs, prayers and words of encouragement. There was no pressure to have all the answers. There was simply a willingness to listen.
Women spoke about difficult seasons navigating through grief and widowhood, the long waiting period for the fruit of the womb, domestic violence, lack of confidence, stigmatization, inequalities.
The panelists; suicide prevention advocate Gloria Boatemaa Andoh, a rep of entrepreneur Maame Joe and burns survivor and globally recognised advocate Judith Cato Addison, also shared their personal experiences and how they turned their pains into purposes.
But perhaps, the highlight of the moment wasn’t when guest speakers shared words of encouragement or offered supports, but the decision to become personal friends and coaches to some of the drained women.
By the end of the session, the heaviness that many had walked in with seemed to have given way to something lighter.
The hugs felt warmer and the smiles came more easily. The prayers carried a different kind of hope.
The conference reminded attendees that sometimes women do not necessarily need another lecture telling them how to be strong. Sometimes, they simply need a room where they can be vulnerable without being judged.
‘Be Inspired by Tima’ Women’s Conference provided exactly that.
And judging by the connections made and the impact felt in the room, the hope is that this meeting of girlhood will return next year, with even more women finding their way into the room.
