Shatta Wale may not have been part of Wode Maya’s courtship, but his music apparently did some of the talking for him.
The Ghanaian YouTuber has revealed how songs by the dancehall star helped him express his love for his Kenyan wife, Miss Trudy, and became a soundtrack to their relationship.
Speaking on Joy Prime’s Prime Time with host George Quaye, Wode Maya recalled that when he first met Miss Trudy, he had little to offer financially and could only ask her to believe in his dreams and be patient with him.
“When I met her, I told her, like, listen, I don’t have anything right now, but believe me, we’re going to make it,” he recounted.
Miss Trudy believed in him, and when things began to work out, Wode Maya found the perfect way to express what her support meant to him; through Shatta Wale’s music.
I swear by the moon and the stars, I’ll take you there, take you there oh mama, my baby.
I go take bullet for you I say nor be one, baby nor be two. I go take bullet for you, make I protect you, with my bulletproof.
He explained that Shatta’s ‘Bulletproof’ captured the promise he wanted to make to Miss Trudy after she stood by him.
And once he had won her heart, Wode Maya did not stop at one Shatta Wale song. He introduced Miss Trudy to his catalogue, and she soon became a fan herself.
Miss Trudy said she became particularly hooked on “Freedom,” which she listened to every day.
“After that, I just got into Shatta Wale so much. I started listening to ‘Freedom’ like every day. I loved it,” she said.
Today, Shatta Wale’s music remains a regular feature in their life, often playing in their car as they drive and on their sound systems at home.
