Ashanti Gold are winners of the maiden edition of the BK Edusei Foundation Cup

Ashanti Gold are winners of the maiden edition of the BK Edusei Foundation Cup after beating their regional rivals, Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The game, which was played on Sunday, saw the Miners defeating the Porcupines 4-3 on penalties to win the trophy after a goalless 90 minutes action.

Goalkeeper Felix Annan made two superb saves for Kotoko but his teammates couldn’t hold on to the lead missing three kicks, two out of which was saved by Ashgold’s Frank Boateng.

The BK Adusei Memorial Match was organised by the BK Foundation to raise funds to support former Asante Kotoko players in the 1970s.

Adusei was the first Chairman of the Board of Directors of Asante Kotoko and remained so for a very long time till the late Asantehene Otumfuo Opoku Ware II conferred on him the title of life patron. He was the main inspirer and major financier whilst Otumfuo was the spiritual head.

The match also offered the two clubs the platform as they continue preparations for their upcoming continental games.

Kotoko will face Étoile du Sahel of Tunisia while Ashanti Gold lock horns with RSB Berkane of Morocco.
