Fetish priests are being consulted to help rescue the 14 galamseyers trapped in the pit at Nsuta near Prestea in the Western Region.
Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Benito Owusu-Bio has announced.
Five (5) out of 19 galamseyers have been rescued since the incident occurred on Sunday but the remaining 14 are still trapped in the pit and police is uncertain if they are still alive or dead.
The miners, numbering 19, were believed to have been trapped since yesterday after a heavy downpour.
It is not clear if the trapped victims are still alive or dead. Rescue efforts are underway to attempt to rescue possible survivors.
According to the Nsuta District Police Commander, Superintendent Atsu Dzinaku, the pit in which the victims are trapped is about 80 meters deep.
The residents are leading the rescue mission, the district commander confirmed.
Supt Dzinaku said the police are currently interrogating two out of the five victims who escaped unhurt.
As part of efforts to save the trapped miners, the deputy Minister said they will include fetish priest in the rescue team.
He indicated that, such accident have spiritual connotation thus it will be prudent to consult deities in the town to enable the rescue team choose the right path.
Hon. Benito Owusu-Bio also urged other galamseyers in the town to join the rescue team to save their colleagues.

He also added that, government will use military force to clamp down on illegal miners who ply their trade at night in the town.
