A taxi driver, Atsu Adatsi, has been reportedly arrested by the police after he knocked down a groundnut seller in Accra.

Information available to media shows that the incident occurred after the suspect made an unauthorized U-turn on the Graphic Road in Accra.

He, however, knocked down the seller, Charlotte Debrah, with his taxi, which had the registration number, GE-5553-15, and immediately sought to flee the scene.

He was, however, pursued by the motorcycle riders, who ply their trade around the Yellow Cab Bus Stop.

After catching up on him, they escorted the Adatsi back to the accident spot where they handed him over to a police officer close by.

The victim, a mother of three, was rushed to the Odorna Medical Centre for first aid before being referred to the Adabraka Polyclinic for further treatment.

According to her, “I was walking when I suddenly felt something heavy hit me on my lower back. I found myself on the street and when I tried raising my head, I noticed a car turning to speed away.”

Corporal Thomas Morton, of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) in Accra, stated that the suspect had been placed in custody, pending further investigations.

He added that although the suspect had written his statement for the police, they were still awaiting the recovery of the victim for her to assist in investigations.

Morton nonetheless commended the motorcycle riders for their efforts in helping to arrest the suspect.
