New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Women’s Organiser aspirant, Hawa Koomson, has appealed to the government to grant bail to 40-year-old nurse and mother of three, Salomey Baffoe, who is reportedly being held over alleged links to the anonymous social media account, “Ghana Jollof”.
In a statement posted on Facebook on Thursday, September 17, 2026, the former Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister said she was concerned about the circumstances surrounding Madam Baffoe’s arrest and subsequent detention.
According to reports, Salomey Baffoe was taken from her home in Hansua, Techiman, around midnight on Sunday, September 13, by persons who identified themselves as National Security operatives.
Her family initially struggled to establish her whereabouts, while the Bono East Regional Police Command and regional National Security officials reportedly denied knowledge of her arrest.
However, Hawa Koomson said the state was now holding the nurse and that she had subsequently been brought before the Adenta Circuit Court and remanded.
She said Salomey’s lawyer had indicated that the prosecution was accusing her of conspiring with the anonymous “Ghana Jollof” account to overthrow the government.
Hawa Koomson questioned the circumstances under which the nurse was detained and stressed the need for due process.
“I am not asking that anyone be placed above the law. If the state has evidence, let it bring that evidence openly and fairly. But suspicion is not evidence, and a mother’s freedom must not be gambled away in the hunt for an anonymous account.”
She said the situation had left Salomey’s three children without their mother and called for greater consideration for the family.
“No child in Ghana should go to bed wondering where their mother is.”
Hawa Koomson further appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to direct the relevant security agencies to address the concerns surrounding Salomey’s detention.
She called for the nurse to be granted bail while investigations continue and demanded an explanation over the circumstances of her detention.
She also called for Salomey’s family and lawyers to be given full and regular access to her.
Additionally, Hawa Koomson urged the authorities to end what she described as “night-time arrests of women” and the circulation of their photographs based on mere suspicion.
She thanked the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association for supporting its member and expressed solidarity with Salomey’s husband, mother and children.
“We will keep raising our voices until she is back home where she belongs.”
The statement comes amid growing public attention surrounding investigations into the anonymous “Ghana Jollof” social media account and reports of arrests of individuals allegedly linked to it.
