Govt imposes curfew on Karaga, 11 communities in Gushegu over security concerns

The Minister for the Interior, acting on the advice of the National Security Council and by Executive Instrument, has imposed a curfew on Karaga Township and 11 communities in the Gushegu District of the Northern Region with immediate effect.

The curfew runs from 6:00pm to 6:00am daily.

The affected communities in Gushegu include Paboni, Yidaani, Kukpok, Busun No. 1, Busun No. 2, Nagnani, Nayagile, Donbin, Kolik, Tinyongu, and Klokpan.

Government has urged chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, and residents in the affected areas to remain calm and exercise restraint as efforts continue to address the security situation.

Residents have also been encouraged to resort to peaceful and non-violent means in resolving grievances and to support ongoing peace-building efforts.

Additionally, a total ban has been placed on the carrying of arms, ammunition, and any offensive weapons within the affected areas. Security agencies have warned that anyone found in possession of such items will be arrested and prosecuted.

The directive forms part of measures aimed at restoring calm and preventing further escalation of tensions in the Northern Region.
