The long-awaited construction of a 160-bed Savannah Regional Referral Hospital has taken a step forward following the formal handover of the project site to the contractor at Damongo.
The development is expected to boost the region’s capacity to provide specialised medical care and reduce the need for residents to travel outside Savannah for advanced treatment.
The site was handed over to the contractor on Friday as part of government’s broader plan to improve referral healthcare infrastructure in Savannah, Oti and the Western North regions.
Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, announced the Savannah project milestone in a Facebook post on Sunday, September 27.
Each of the three regions is expected to receive a new 160-bed regional referral hospital, providing additional facilities and strengthening access to specialised healthcare.
The hospitals are also expected to ease pressure on existing health facilities while improving the referral system for patients requiring higher-level medical attention.
He said government had formally handed over the Damongo site to the contractor, paving the way for construction to begin.
