The government has intensified its response to suspected and confirmed yellow fever cases recorded in parts of the country, with a National Rapid Response Team deployed to the northern regions.
Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh said the Upper West Region is receiving particular attention following the confirmation of cases in the area.
Speaking at the Ministry of Health’s Health Sector Update Engagement in Accra, Mr Akandoh said designated sections of district hospitals in affected communities had been isolated to facilitate the management of suspected and confirmed cases.
He added that surveillance had been heightened, while laboratories had been supplied with the necessary reagents to support the testing and confirmation of suspected cases.
“As of yesterday, the suspected cases were around 450 from June to September. Out of that, 74 were from the Upper West, and three were confirmed from Upper West,” he said.
The Minister urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with health authorities as efforts continue to contain the disease and prevent further spread.
“We don’t have to press the panic buttons. So let us, the media, please, let’s handle it well, there are a lot of things that have been deployed.
“The National Rapid Response Team has been deployed to the northern part of the country, especially the Upper West, where we’ve detected cases and we are handling it,” he said.
Mr Akandoh assured the public that the necessary response measures had been activated to manage the situation.
