Businesses that operate around the clock and require additional security have been encouraged to apply for police personnel as part of Ghana’s 24-hour policing initiative.
Deputy Minister for the Interior, Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, says the Ghana Police Service has personnel available under the initiative to provide security support to businesses that need policing for their 24-hour operations.
Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr Terlabi urged businesses that require police presence to formally apply to the Police Service.
He explained that the arrangement is intended to strengthen security around businesses operating at night and create a safer environment for the 24-hour economy.
Mr Terlabi stressed that the deployment of police personnel under the initiative is not a temporary arrangement or a publicity exercise.
According to him, the necessary legal framework has already been established, with the relevant bill passed by Parliament and assented to by President John Dramani Mahama.
He said the rollout has already begun and will therefore not be abandoned as a short-lived initiative.
“This is not an ad hoc thing we’re doing. The bill has been sent to Parliament and passed and the President has assented to it. So it is not something someone will come and trash it,” he said.
Mr Terlabi further assured businesses that the 24-hour policing initiative is a structured government programme aimed at providing the security needed to support businesses that operate beyond the traditional working hours.
He urged businesses that require police personnel to take advantage of the arrangement and submit their applications to the appropriate authorities.
The 24-hour policing initiative forms part of broader government efforts to create a secure environment for businesses and workers operating at night. The Ghana Police Service has also been rolling out the strategy as part of efforts to support economic activity.
