The Ghana Volleyball Federation has appealed for increased government support after celebrating a series of strong performances at regional and continental competitions.
A delegation led by federation president George Tettey visited the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, where officials presented their recent achievements and outlined plans to further develop the sport in Ghana.
Among the federation’s recent successes was winning gold at the CAVB Zone 3 Nations Cup in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. Ghana also claimed medals at the Africa Youth Beach Cup in Saly, Senegal, and secured silver at the CAVB Zone 3 Beach Volleyball Nations Cup in Badagry, Nigeria.
The national teams also competed in the Road to Los Angeles 2028 Series and World Championship qualifying events.
Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams congratulated the federation on its achievements, saying greater investment in sport could create more opportunities for young people.
“When sports are properly supported, the youth of this country will flourish,” Adams said.
The minister praised the federation’s progress in a sport that receives less attention than football and described volleyball as an important contributor to national development.
Adams also reiterated the government’s commitment to improving sports infrastructure, pointing to President John Dramani Mahama’s pledge to build 10 mini-stadia with multi-purpose facilities across the country.
He said both the president and vice-president had expressed their commitment to supporting all sporting disciplines, including volleyball, through increased funding and infrastructure development.
The minister urged stakeholders to work together to mobilise resources for the national sports fund, arguing that so-called “lesser sports” could achieve even greater success with sustained investment.
He also commended the Ghana Police Service for recruiting athletes into its ranks and encouraged other security agencies to adopt similar initiatives.
Addressing the players, Adams praised their dedication and encouraged them to remain disciplined as they pursue further success.
“You can reach whatever height you aspire to. Keep listening, stay focused, and continue to soar higher,” he said.
