Ghana midfielder Elisha Owusu has completed a permanent transfer from French club AJ Auxerre to newly promoted Turkish Super Lig side Erzurumspor FK.

The 28-year-old brings an end to a three-and-a-half-year stay with Auxerre, where he established himself as a key figure in midfield and later captained the team.

Owusu joined the French club from Belgian outfit Gent in January 2023 for a reported fee of €500,000 and quickly became an influential presence both on and off the pitch.

According to reports, Auxerre will receive around €1m, excluding bonuses, for the Ghana international, allowing the club to make a profit on their initial investment despite Owusu having one year remaining on his contract.

His departure follows months of speculation over his future, with the midfielder left out of Auxerre’s starting line-up for their recent 1-0 pre-season victory over German side Werder Bremen.

The move offers Owusu a new challenge in Turkey’s top flight, where Erzurumspor are preparing for their first season back in the Super Lig following promotion.

A regular member of Ghana’s national team squad, Owusu arrives with extensive experience gained in both France and Belgium.

He is expected to add leadership, defensive stability and top-level experience to Erzurumspor’s midfield as the club seeks to establish itself in the Turkish top division.
